Date/time of visit: JUL 9 2011 Saturday 2:30pmMy parents first introduced me to café gabbana weeks ago and I thought it was quite a nice place, so I’ve then decided to come again with my friend and write a food review for it.Last time we walked there from Prince Edward station which took us quite a while, so for a change we tried walking there from Kowloon Tong MTR.Still, it took us ages to get there, especially tiring under the hot Hong Kong weather.The walk took us about 10 minutes.When we finally arrived, as we would have expected, there’s just one table occupied, and the waitress came over to serve us very quickly.That’s one of the good things of a small restaurant. Atmosphere: The café is a really quiet place, with a kind of homey feel to it, but it is also quite torn and tattered.There are photos of cats on the wall behind our table, and on the wall next to us there are lots of scribbles that I think are done by previous customers.Food: First thing after we sat down we ordered a Chocolate Shake and a Caramel Coffee. Chocolate ShakeTo me this was a bit too sweet and sugary, since I prefer more bitter chocolate.Good thing is that the texture is just right, not too thick or watery, and feels great after a long walk under the sun. Caramel CoffeeCompared the the Chocolate Shake, this has no taste.It was plain and bland.It wasn't sweet enough and we had to ask the waitress to give us more syrup, but even after adding the syrup it still wasn't sweet enough.After that my friend ordered a Spaghetti Carbonara, and I had Spaghetti with Fried Oysters.For dessert we shared a Serradurra.Spaghetti CarbonaraWe could already smell the bacon even before the plate was put on the table, which is very mouthwatering.Y especially liked the sauce, which wasn't too creamy or thick, but still carried the taste.However, there was too little ingredients added.Normally you would expect onions to be in Carbonara, but this dish there was just the cream sauce, bacon and pasta.Too plain.So she gave this dish a 6 out of 10. Spaghetti with fried oysters Last time I came here I also ordered this dish, and I liked it enough to order it again.But this time, it seemed different.I couldn't make out the sauce, tastes like some herds, onions, and white wine, but it goes well with the oyster and givesthe pasta a very fresh taste.I liked the sauce very much, it wasn't too salty.However, the spaghetti was too soaked.Not the way I like it. Still I would give it 7 out of 10 SerradurraFinally, the dessert.Somehow, there is this slight butter taste, which wasn't appealing at all.The texture was alright, but the taste didn't taste like dessert to me at all.It wasn't sweet enough and the bread crumbs didn't have enough taste to it which made me feel like I was just eating frozen whipped cream.Overall, I liked the food but I might not come again unless I pass by, or I learn how to drive.The store itself is too far and in the middle of nowhere.And even though I liked the atmosphere, the store wasn't too comfortable to sit in for a long time because the walls and furniture looked like they haven't been taken good care of.I also liked the food a lot; it seemed simple but you can still see that they did put effort into making it.On the other hand, the dessert and drinks are just average, and seriously overpriced.So if anyone is going to visit this place, I advice you to just order something simple to drink, and focus on the food.

上次同朋友去 afternoon tea, 小小一家店, 位處內街, 環境寧靜, 啱傾計。

門口有meter 位, 適合揸車朋友。

上次試咗木槺布甸, 得呀!! 布甸質感似雪糕, 比較硬身, 但係好滑, 好香, 加埋D脆脆 "木槺" , 食落去有兩種完全不同口感, 好得意。

老闆話木槺係用餅乾壓碎, 加入了杏仁粉而成, 所以好香杏仁味, 值得一試。

今日同男友去食晚飯, 氣氛幾好, 啱拍拖談心。

老闆推介牡丹蝦刺身同龍蝦意大利飯。

牡丹蝦是日本的, 大隻, 鮮味, 肉質較重膠質, 但係啖啖肉。

蝦頭炸過, 夠脆!龍蝦意大利飯亦有驚喜! 其實我不大喜歡Risotto , 嫌D意大利米太硬。

不過, 老闆極力推介, 於是抱著冒險精神一試! 首先賣相一流! 半邊龍蝦放在意大利飯上面, melted cheese 仲慢慢流落D飯, 應該係剛出爐即serve. 果然熱騰騰! 本來有點擔心芝士會好膩, 但係食落一D都唔覺膩, 芝士份量恰到好處。

個飯底一D都唔硬, 好有咬口, 夠煙韌, 加埋D cream sauce,平時我好少可以成碟食哂, 通常都要男友執手尾, 但今次出奇地可以食哂, 好嘢!我地仲點了野菌炒椰菜, 少油爽口, 有野菌之外, 仲有我嘅favourite 翠肉瓜! 男友點了咖哩牛肉飯, 因為我嗜辣, 所以覺得辣D會更好。

甜品點了美式雪糕批, 唔太甜, 好OK. Overall 呢餐係水準之作, 一定會再去!

我同一班朋友每月一聚周圍搵食, 令到每一聚都有意思~今次, 朋友聽電台 dj介紹話呢間食店環境及食物應該直得一去, 所我地一行五人book左位食晚飯.晚飯當日上黎睇睇食評, 睇黎好壞參半~_~因為我地唔熟路, 結果要搭的士~其實行去都好近, 只不過太多小路 (我地越行越錯)~我地叫左焗薯皮, 焗蠔,炸 雞膇, 柚子大蝦沙律, 黑松路磨菇意粉, 龍蝦意大利飯, 木糠布甸, 芒果蛋糕, 紐約芝士蛋糕, 蘋果批, 無花果批.埋單大概hk$920.老板推介無花果批, 呢個餐牌上冇寫, 老板見我地咁鍾意食甜品, 所以問吓我地有冇興趣. 全晚最讚呢個批!老板見到我地呢班甜品精, 送我地食幾塊自家製朱古力曲奇 > 鬆化, 朱古力夠, 入口即溶~好滿足~ps, 呢間食店應該主要做熟客生意, 老板會同每一檯客人傾偈~我地第一次去, 都感受到老板對客人既親切以及對食物既熱情~

i had dinner at cafe gabanna with my angel on 20 november. at first i was just looking for some place quiet with nice decent food coz i would hate to have to dine at festival walk, so i took a good look here and in the end decided to give cafe gabanna a try.i called the cafe at around 1130 hrs on 20 November and made my reservation. i was received by a staff who happened to have a relatively large voice but with very nice manner. that's one tick for the cafe then...the fact that this dinner was of MAJOR importance to me, caused me to dial a second call to the cafe to (i) reconfirm my reservation (ii) find out if they have a goodenough selection of white wine and (iii) find out whether the cafe actually closes at 2100 hrs.my second call was answered by the same staff who assured me they have a wide selection of wines (my angel preferred white), and that the cafe doesn't close until 2200 hrs or so (as i read it from up top gabbana opens from 1200 2100 hrs at night).another tick for gabanna~my reservation was for 1830 hrs... i met up with my girl at festival walk, and we took a nice 15minute walk to the cafe. since it was our first time being there, i have taken a good look at the map beforehand (would've been damn embarrassing if we ended up lost in the area... one tick for myself haha~) but as it turned out, the place wasn't that hard to find at all.we visited cafe gabanna without knowing what to expect... but as described by those who have been to, it's a small but cozy restaurant, very relaxing and all. there're about 6 tables on the inside, but my angel and i decided to take our seats on the balcony. a lady staff was kind enough to set up a table for the two of us, and our seats're on the right hand side of the staircase (our own quiet corner... cool~)as soon as we're nice and comfy, we asked for a drink list but surprisingly, they didn't have one~! it was then when someone who appeared to be the owner of the cafe came by, and patiently explained to us they didn't have a fixed list coz the cafe's constantly changing its wine selection... ok i'll settle for that.anyhow, the owner recommended a south african brand... well my angel and i ain't no wine experts so we just tried it. well it wasn't bad at all, nice and crispy (didn't know the price though, we're too happy to be paying attention to such trivial stuff)...i'd say we're up for a very good start...we ordered two appetizers to begin with, garlic bread (my girl's favourite food probably) and some sorta diced stonegrilled beef. the garlic bread was basically a piece of baguette being cut into 4 smaller pieces... it's pretty tasty, nice and hot and my angel liked it.the beef, on the other hand, was very delicious. the meat itself was tender and succulent, diced into little bitesizes. we didn't order our main courses (from chef's daily recommendations) until we almost finished off the bottle of wine (!!!) i had u.s. prime sirloin (medium) and my lovely companion, an angel hair pasta with garlic and prawns... oh we had a side salad with goose liver too.the food... well i liked my steak. the meat was good, nicely grilled and seasoned with a pinch of seasalt, garnished with some green salad. as for my angel's angel hair (), it's not bad either, chewy (i hate it when ppl serve me overcooked pasta) and the prawns were fresh. the side salad was yummy too, though the piece of goose liver did tend to turn cold rather quickly but hey, we're sitting on the balcony so i ain't gonna complain about it.since we already finished our bottle of wine and the cafe didn't serve halfbottles, we ordered two more glasses of the south african brand. it really was quite a good wine (to me, all drinks alcoholic're GOOD~!)cafe gabbana didn't have a sweets menu, but we did try out an icecream dessert with some chocolatey syrup thing on the outside. it's also good though i must say given the situation i was in back then, salt would taste like honey.our lovely dinner lasted over 3 hours, until 2200 hrs or so when we're politely hinted by the owner that the cafe's closing soon. of coz, we were handed the bill at the same time.everything added up to sth just under a thousand dollars. given the food they served, the drinks and the quality of service (which i personally think was great coz they didn't show their faces too much, leaving our quiet little corner... very quiet ), it's very reasonable.it's by far one of the greatest dinner i ever had... and i totally love the environment there, very very pleasant, great for having a chat and drinks.and z, thank u for your lovely company last night. i had the best time... and u looked absolutely beautiful.
