Tried the caneles at friends’ dinner party. I was blown away. The caramerlized top, the texture, the flavor. Everything was so special. So today some other friends are visiting from out of town and I’m ordering a box to be delivered to their hotel room. I’m ordering a box for myself while I’m at it. Yummmmmmm!!!
I tried the assorted taste so I can feel the 5 different tastes !The flavors is pleasant and mild when I unwrap the beautiful box.They are not too sugary so I really like it, I esp. love the tender texture at centre with the cripsy skin...it's almost perfect!
Canelés是一款法式甜點來自一個叫波爾多的地方筆者曾經在一家餐廳嘗過 十分喜歡有想過自家制作但銅制模具在香港不易找而且要造到外脆內軟的效果其實不容易早前在k11的法式市集再次遇到是一家網店的制作有供應給本地的餐廳造得相當好外層的焦糖部分焗得脆而不會太硬不會過度燒焦亦不會過甜內裏則是鬆軟的雲尼拿和冧酒味道口感叫入難忘假若碰見 不妨一試不過若是在網上預訂的話比較建議提早致給店主因為是小本制作而店主又是十分隨心的法國人交收方面安排得其實有點緩慢
There was new Lunar New Year market this year called Mart In Hong Kong. Boyfriend and I were there to look around and eat some of the snacks there.While walking around, I found one stand called Le Canele D'or. A French couple run this online shop that makes caneles. A French pastry that has a caramelized exterior and custardy interior. This pastry hails from the Bordeaux area. And this company bakes them the traditional way including using copper molds from France. They were selling mini versions for 3 for $20 or a larger version for $20 each. Curious, as I have yet to find a good canele in Hong Kong, I decided to get the larger one.There were two flavors: vanilla rum on the left and orange Grand Mariner on the right. BOOZY sweets! My fave! These were wonderful. A nice caramelization. The inside was soft and tender. The vanilla rum was strong in vanilla and wasn't too sweet. However, the winner was the orange Grand Mariner. Fragrant and richly sweet that was balanced by the bitterness of the candied orange peels. I wish at that moment, I was not eating them at the park and had a cup of coffee to go with them!Fantastic caneles that are not easy to find in Hong Kong. The staff was friendly and informed me that they not only do online ordering but they now offer them at IFC's CitySuper. I'll have to find them next time I'm in IFC and buy some home!
It was my first time going to a Wine and Dine event Thanks to Openrice’s Wine and Dine guest passes.Before you go in, you are given a starter bag which contains a wine glass and a booklet of coupons for free wine and food tasting.There are two types of food coupons depending on your pass, the ones I got were VIP coupons which entitles you to full portions of food according to the information and the normal ones are worth $10 per coupon.It was confusing at first because I have not attended this before and some booths were mind boggled by these coupons, some treated these VIP coupons for half portions, and some treated them as being worth $10 so I did not the coupons on these booths.Le Canele D'or does not do retail and only takes orders for delivery so this was one of the booths I had to try.There are three flavours: Traditional (vanilla/rum), Mediterranean (orange zest/liquor), Irish (coffee/whisky)The boxes for these Canelés were quite classy.At this booth, I used one VIP coupon on one cocktail sized canele.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★Traditional (vanilla/rum) canelé:The canele was quite hard with a bitter caramelized crust and inside it was quite sweet and chewy.I was expecting the middle to be eggy and soft but it was not.It is similar to eating the burnt edges of a bread and butter pudding.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
