Found out about this new item walking past a Fairwood! The Tonkatsu Kurobuta is quite tender but oily, yet surprisingly its Panko crumbs is the better variety rather than the boring, nonpointy type available at とん吉, which despite its good taste overall uses some pretty ordinary commercialgrade Panko bread crumbs.(I suppose no one really cares though, although I'm a big fan of those top quality Panko's in Japan which have actually received World Patents. )The Pork had some pork taste but not enough, since it was marinated & brined previously in what seemed like a gingery sauce which has more relevance to chicken 竜田揚げ than normal Tonkatsu. Having said that, most Tonkatsu shops in Japan are actually premarinated, its just that the top end shops usually fry them as fresh pork.Each has their advantages. No either way is right or wrong.Rice is pearl grain but slightly mushy. Cabbage salad were shredded a bit too thickly and doesn't have much sweetness.Nevertheless, @ $32 only for the whole set this is surely a winner.In fact the pork tasted better than it did at Bairin when it first started!(But haven't been back to Bairin TST or Bairin IFC recently to compare though.) WILL BE BACK!
