EL Fishawy推介
I truly enjoyed the food here, quality, interpretation and delivery was excellent! the falafel was one of the best, crisp on the outside sparkled with sesame seeds and soft in the middle. The lamb kebabs were good as well, they could used some veggies just like the falafel came on a bed of salad leaves. The haloumi cheese salad was the best, big chunks of roasted haloumi cheese with chunks of tomatoes, carrots and peppers, all spiced up to perfection with savory. The menu offers a good mix of Middle Eastern and North African delights, and I plan to visit again and try the Lamb Tagine. I also like the decor and the music played, both contributing to an excellent atmosphere. The service was amazing, both the bartender and the server went far and beyond to please us. One fixed a special vodka and melon drink for us and the other whipped an Egyptian been and hummus appetizer at my request!

Having read the reviews for this restaurant, it's hard to imagine whether it's a great dining experience or a terrible mistake. It's hard to find a restaurant where the reviews are so polarizing, but somehow this place managed it. We would summarise our experience as "meh, it's average".Firstly it was empty on a Saturday night at 7pm which didn't bode well, but that may be because Potato Head opened right across from it and people were queueing up to get inside that joint instead. The tables were small and round, closely packed together, with one side a musty bench sofa and the other side backless stools. The wall paint was old and peeling in some places, but you could see the attempt at making it arabic and exotic, with lots of lamps and pictures to kit it out in a Middle Eastern theme. The bulldog was friendly but the lady owner/waitress quickly tied it up at the corner of the restaurant when we entered, and she kept going back to it to "shssh" it whenever it woofed for attention. Classic mistake dogs don't know why you're shsshing at them, all they see is that you're giving them attention, so they keep barking when you leave them knowing that you will come back to them. Also I'm not sure what the hygiene officers would say to having a dog and a half eaten sandwich for it lying on the floor. We ordered the zaalouk which came with 3 pieces of slightly burnt pita bread, though the dip itself was nice enough. The kofta came in more of a balsamic vinaigrette than a tahini sauce, and that same sauce was in the haloumi cheese salad. The cheese was slightly overdone but not leatherlike inedible as someone commented on.The chicken tagine had 6 pieces of tender chicken in it, but the sauce was a little gooey as if it was thickened with cornstarch, and a touch on the salty side. The couscous came in a bowl that you would see expect in a cha chaan teng where wonton noodles are served in, but the couscous itself was light and fluffy.Halfway through our meal another couple came in for dinner, but judging by the business this place is doing, I'd hazard a guess that they are trying to economise by not spending too much on upgrading the joint, which unfortunately gives it a dated and worn appearance. The shsshing got to us in the end, it was just uncomfortable to hear someone talking to a dog throughout our meal.
My husband and I live around the area, so we decided to try this restaurant because we both love eating Middle Eastern food. When we asked if we could sit side by side (the restaurant was empty at around 7pm, when we walked in), the waitress angrily asked twice, "Two people, two tables?!" "Ok," she said, "you need to sit across from each other when more people!" Then she grabbed the extra plates and yanked the remaining paper placemats away.1. Halloumi cheese salad, $65The cheese had the texture of overcooked turkey breast. I'll give it credit by saying there was a tinge of goat cheese in the palette. But that was it. Other than the fact there were a couple of sliced cherry tomatoes and a few notsofresh pieces of foliage underneath the overcooked cheese wedges.2. Kofta, $60Lamb was overcooked, but tender enough (well, because it was minced.) This dish was the most satisfactory out of the three we ordered.3. Beef Kebab, $55All I can say was that the potatoes and carrots were cooked properly. The beef was so overcooked and dry that I could barely cut it, no matter which direction I tried to saw my knife. Basically just tasted like cheap steak from the supermarket that had been unattended on a grill for 15 minutes. When we asked for the bill, my husband gave out his credit card. The waitress angrily snapped back, "Machine broken! Cash only!" Of course, the payment method was fine for us, but the service was not.All throughout our meal, we felt intimidated by the waitress' attitude. The way she served us each plate, and gave us water and refilled our water was actually a bit scary. There was no eyecontact, no smile, no dialogue whatsoever, nor did she ask us what we thought of the food. Even though we thanked her for serving us, and even though there were no other customers.Would definitely not recommend this restaurant. Unless you want to be sneered at by the waitress for your entire meal!
I have been coming to this place for the last 2 years. In the beginning we only went there for shisha and drinks. There isnt much you can mess up with a gin and tonic they know how to make one. Their shishas are cleaned daily so theyre not 'raspy' and they dont charge for extra coal which is unusual. We dined there for the first time around 6 months ago and we were very impressed with the food the lamb tagine is extremely tender and delicious! The staff are lovely very talkative and friendly.
