This restaurant should not exist, yet it does. I've seen it for over two years. I finally gave in to the temptation and felt like a tasty burger. First impression: their tagline BUILD YOUR OWN BURGER! sounds exciting and inviting, but we had initial doubts, raised by the menu and the lack of customers. Those doubts turned out to be realistic. The menu is as excessive in choice as it is in price, and quite frankly overwhelming. I felt like my first time in McDonalds when I was eight, not able to make up my mind. We finally gave up 'BUILDING YOUR OWN BURGER!' and settled for an alacarte Satay beef burger and the 'Italian Job' burger.In the meantime, the seemingly uninterested cashier informed us that there are no french fries, and also no satay sauce. We ended up spending over 180 HKD for a Corona beer, satay beef burger which was, de facto, BBQ sauced burger, and an 'italian job' which was, sans the creative title, merely a burger with ketchup and red onions. Also, and this is interesting, we paid 10% service charge.After placing our order we sat down, I couldn't help but noticing it felt incredibly damp and stuffy and I felt the urge to open a window (note that it's January). I was surprised the cashier gave me one of those vibrating timebombs, which in my opinion is a rather unelegant method of notifying that your food is ready for pickup. Note that this is a small place and we were the only customers, but it's apparently customary to walk up to the counter to pick up your expensive burgers yourself. This is selfexplanatory and very common for nonservice fastfood restaurants such as McDonalds and Burger King. After all, you pay merely for your food. Curiously, this Gourmet Burger Union is twice as expensive as Freshness Burger, where they actually bring you your order to your table. Yes, the food was quite good, but for the price you pay you expect a proper restaurant setting with attentive waiters. I feel deeply disappointed because I would have liked to try more dishes, knowing that I never will.

I don't know if I had lowered my expectations or something after reading GBU's reviews, but really. Really not bad. Throwing aside my suspected prejudices I will write this review in full trust of my objective tastebuds. Food:1. Burger 1 $68: Chicken, avocado and streaky bacon with lettuceThe chicken was alright. Large and properly grilled. Avocado was slightly raw, cld've been riper, mushier. Streaky bacon yummy, can't go wrong. Mayo alright. Bread not properly grilled. but overall, i'd give it a 6.5/10!2. Burger 2: Beef, egg, portobello mushroom. My friend said it was good too. It LOOKED nice as well. but she left the two pieces of burger almost untouched i think...oh well i guess girls are very conscious about eating too much carbs nowadays!3. Burger 3:Beef, rocket, cheese...? Didn't taste this one. but there you have it rocket in a burger. 4. Burger 4: Beef, raw onions, tomato... "Oh it's good.!" remarked guy friend. I didn't try. But again there you have it. 5. Onion RingsIf you want a very unhealthy but delicious and addictive snack, go for this. They're the best onion rings in town. Reminds me of the days when i had them in Australia. Absolutely glorious. mmmmm!6. Potato Wedges Not as good as the onion rings. They were a bit too hot. and the potato was a bit too mushy, i think. We spotted this guy chomping on the french fries which looked VERY good. Will go for that next time. ;) Do give GBU a chance.

Went to this restaurant just after 2:00pm and there are only 2 customers.I have ordered a basic burger, french fries and a bottle of drink.Although I was the only customer on the queue, I waited more than 10mins for my food.First of all, the burger is awful.For $58, I expect something a bit better than McDonald.The bread is wet, it's hasn't been toasted, in between, just a piece of beef burger and lots of tomato sauce, the beef burger is not even hot.I could only find about 34 pieces of onion & lettuce, badly chopped, by hand I guess.The bowl of french fries is hopeless, HK$20, it's actually not French fries but much thicker, it's oily and they looked so dead to me.I couldn't find one pieces of good looking healthy chip at all.They all look like from left over from all the other customers...I was so angry, brought the bowl of chips back to the cashier and told him how disgusting it was.I will never go back to this restaurant again!
