I have lived in the area for over 2 years, and trully love the Sai Wan Ho area. In fact after all that time I have never had a trully negative experience here at all, there is so much variety in the area, and people have always been so friendly towards me as a non canto speaking foreigner...I had generally avoided the Soho East Bar/Restaurant street since they were the most expensive places in the area / and had only heard average reviews of the food. However have always been in search of a friendly local bar to call home...I knew there was a dark looking Karaoke bar in amongst, that had always interested me, tonight with a friend in town and my flatmates I decided to venture in for a drink at 8pm on a Mon.This was to be a huge mistake. They said there was no happy hour, even though it was so early, this was ok, even though their drinks were as expensive as the real SOHOs, beers all over $50, cocktails $68 and glass of avg. wine $88, due to these prices, we decided to only stay for one drink, the staff seemed very anxious for us to buy another drink or leave, and did not treat us at all with a good level of customer service..But the very sad thing was when we asked for the bill..they had added on a Nuts bill for 114 HKD (+10% service!) for our group of 6 people! and this was a tiny saucer of peanuts and one of prawn crackers..These were given to us, when we ordered our drinks and no mention was made of the price. It was then assumed that it was free and complimentary with our purchase of 6 overpriced cocktails (over 400$ already!)Of course we had to pay the bill: total: 614.00 HKD for 6 avg. cocktails...go figure. I have paid less for drinks at Azure in LKF hotel...which kinda sums it up.There were a few locals in the bar of which none of them had been served the Nuts. So you have to think that it was purely a rip off aimed at the westerners. We paid and left, after mentioning to the uninterested manager what poor customer service it was.There is no need for this type of service in Sai Wan Ho.I urge you not to go there, and will never set foot in the place again.
