Two months ago I decided to have some South Asian food other than typical Indian fare, and originally I was planning to go to the 'Everest Club' (額菲爾士會) after reading the reviews on OpenRice, but at the last minute I changed my mind and headed to 'South Indian Resturant' right next to Everest Club instead.This was a decision I truly regretted.First off, despite the name 'South Indian', I saw their description 'Halal food' and some Urdulooking slogan on the door. Not a good sign, as typical (North) Indian resturants serve Halal food (i.e. no pork) to cater Muslim customers, while most South Indian food cater the Hindu and Buddhist locale. I knew I was in for a ride.Dining room this is a typical 'mess hall': small suite with less than 20 ppl capacity. There's no decent dining table, just long benches and plastic chairs. Apparently, this place is for foreign residents / traveller at 重慶大廈who are on a shoestring (lowbudget).Menu: South Indian food was nowhere to be found, instead, there was the unSouthern biriyani (available on Friday and weekends only) and some very common (North) Indian dishes. Oh no...Food quality: Out of desperation, I tried the nonS.Ind. lamb vindaloo and a plate of steamed rice, hoping this meal would still have some redeeming value. Guess what? the 'lamb vindaloo' was nothing more than CHINESESTYLE STIRFIRED DRY CURRY LAMB STRIPS WITH CHILI !! Can you believe that?! And its portion was so small I was able to finish the dish and rice in about 5 minutes! No because I liked the taste, but I ate with anger and frustration I wanted to finish it and get out of this hell hole quickly!Price: Well, the food is cheap, the lamb dish was about $25 and the rice was $5. Fit for budget travellers who live in 重慶大廈.Value for money: Despite the low price, this is definitely not a place for anyone who want to have genuine Indian cusine, let alone Soiuth Indian!Conclusion Many Indian / Pakistani 'messes' in 重慶大廈offer good South Asian food. This 'resturant' is NOT one of them. It is now on my black list, and it should be on yours, too. Best avoided.
