I have fond memories of Starbucks and their baked goods, especially their lemon tart which I haven't seen since I came back to HK in end of April. stopped by to check out some baked goods (not cakes, don't like cakes much):Ugly coffee dome ($12): a very pungent roasted coffee aroma throughout the bun (except the filling). topping is quite crunchy, sort of like the pineapple bun crust. bread dough is quite airy and soft. i enjoyed the custard filling the most though surprisingly, as i am not usually fond of custard. it is much less fluid, than the usual custard, in fact i would call it pastelike. the sweetness is just about right, without a particular flavor (eg. vanilla, as i expected) to it. it tastes less "heavy" as it looked i really enjoyed this! Blueberry scone ($12): quite a big piece about the size of my palm. it has a buttery flavor without being too strong. the texture is not too dense for an unleavened bread. has a thin layer of blueberry gel in the middle along the scone (see picture), but it could use more blueberries.Espresso almond fingers ($7): pastry cookies crisp layers with light butter smell and quite a strong espresso punch to it. thin almond slices on top makes it even crispier and even more flavorful. sooo satisfying with my cup of steaming black coffee. as you can see the prices are reasonable too, especially for the quality that starbucks delivered.
