Vietnam probably has some of the most impressive street food in the world. But somehow outside Vietnam, it's not really eaten on the street but in nicely seated restaurants. Not that it's a bad thing but sometimes you just want a really quick yet cheap bite of Vietnam.So, what a treat to find a place in Mong Kok, on the very street filled with all sorts of street food, that sells Vietnamese food. No tables and chairs. Just quick bites while standing on the street for a cheap price.When we found it, it appeared to be new and had just taken over a previous street snack stall. It was so new, they just stuck their menu on top of the previous menu. Menu is in Chinese only. They seem to sell noodles and rice but what peaked my interest was a banh mi.They had the wonderful baguettes on the counter. Price was $38. But they offer a mini version for $10.They also sell coffee packages from Vietnam.I ordered a $10 mini banh mi. Each is made to order so there was a bit of a wait. Handsize, this was a decent portion for a quick bite. The bread was crispy though not as fluffy as I would have liked. The vegetables were fresh but not pickled so there was no real balance of tartness. There was a small amount of pork that had a nice flavor. A small drizzle of hot sauce made it a bit spicy. It's not a great banh mi but for $10, I guess I can forgive as it was pretty cheap.Service was friendly. Though the place was a bit of a mess. Perhaps they were new and just taken over an old shop. I'll return to again to check up on them as this place has potential.
