As we started to explore more SOHO restaurants in last 1 month, we decided to select a casual Thai place for saturday evening and so Lil Siam. Zero minutes waiting time as few tables were available. Environment: Decent decoration with tables for 2 format, either kept for 2 guests or combined for more. Big glass window at entrance is perfect, as you dont feel trapped in a restuarant and can have a good outdoor view. Its a small restaurant similar to others in SOHO with a capacity of 3040 people, but good arrangement so you dont feel congusted. We got a corner table adjacent to wall for a little privacy with my wife. Service: Waiter and Waitress were nice and were giving proper attention for our orders. For 1 dish we asked for details of ingrediants, and the waiter helped to check with chef. Most of the staff is young and responded well to our funny quotes, this just keeps the place more lively. Food:Yum Hua Plee (Banana Blossom Salad): Wanted to have a light weight dinner, so started with salad. Well decorated and well prepared Banana Salad with shredded chicken and spicy peanut coconut dressing. It was very delicious and all credit to dressing. Khao Pad Supparod (Pineapple Fried Rice): Another good dish and good quantity. It was nicely decorated rice dish in half pineapple shell, with small pineapple pieces, chicken, shrimp & cashew nuts. We jumped on it as it was served, as it was smelling very nice, but couldn't finish as good quantity. And no one can waste such a delicious rice, so we asked to pack it for takeaway. I enjoyed it again just now in my morning breakfast. Por Pia Goong (Thai Prawn spring rolls): As I am not a fan of prawns, I only had 1 piece, and it was ok. My wife kind of liked it. I am still in search of a restuarant who can really cook prawns well. Most of the restaurants don't cook prawns fully, and maybe that's thai or HK style. But the prawns were ok with spicy sause.Coconut Freeze and Mint Lime Soda: Thats for our drinks. Mint lime soda was similar to other places, but coconut freeze was good. Not many Thai places server coconut drinks, so wanted to try. It was nice and healthy. Overall we spent around 200 HKD per person for nice Thai dinner. Would goto this place again. Special attaction is Banana Blossom Salad. 

Until this visit, I had no idea that there were Thai restaurants in the soho area.  It was my Korean colleague who introduced me to this place. Environment & Hygiene:The big window was perfect for people watching.  The slanted mirror on the wall was interesting, but weird in a way. It was like the whole restaurant was set up for people watching. Haha. The ambiance was quite nice as it wasn't busy at all. It was a quiet and peaceful place. Hygiene was okay. Service: Service was okay; nothing special. Taste & Value: It was nice that even on a saturday, lunch sets were available.  A lunch set included soup, a main and dessert for $98. The 2 of us ordered 2 sets to share. 1. Clear Pork Soup This soup was like its name. It really was clear in appearance and taste.  It tasted as if they boiled some romaine lettuce in a broth. It was okay because it was not a MSG soup. Ha. 2. Pad Thai This pad thai was delicious. I like that it was wrapped inside a thin layer of egg.  It was a sweeter kind of pad thai, which I quite liked. 3. Tom Yum Goong Fried Rice I have never had tum yum hoong fried rice before, and it seemed attractive, so I decided to try it. It looked nice, but it didn't taste good to me. The rice was really wet, and the chunks of lemongrass made it unpleasant to eat. After a few spoons, I already got sick of the taste. I almost never waste food, but I couldn't finish this. 4. Coconut dessert The coconut flavour was strong and the texture was nice. There were actually chunks of coconut it this. Not a bad dessert at all. Final Verdict:The pad thai was quite good, and the prices were very reasonable for this area. It is a place that I could visit again. 

Having not eaten at a Thai restaurant since my arrival to HK, I was finally looking forward to Thai for the first time in a while. The restaurant is definitelya popular spot, with all the tables full at around 8pm. We made a booking so had no trouble getting a table but walkins had to wait or were asked to come back another time which I found quite professional.SettingA neatly presented modern Thai restaurant. As with other restaurants on Elgin it is designed to maximise diner patronage rather than diner experience. But no matter as the price you are paying is very reasonable. The menu was very nicely set out and FoodThe rice crackers with satay was a nice way to welcome guests and was much appreciated. We ordered a salad, a duck curry and some noddles (not the most imaginative of orders I admit). I guess the acid test for me was whether it could provide decent classic thai dishes as a reasonable price.And to that end it delivered. The curry was nice, not too spicy but provided enough kick with the addition of the peppercorns. In terms of flavour, was very tasty but it had no wow factor in terms of sophistication in flavour. Service I appreciated the fact that we were not rushed, and the way the staff handled some unruly customers.For the size of the restaurant and the amount of bums on seats the staff did well. In addition, for the number of customers, the kitchen seemed to handle it pretty well with food coming out fairly promptly. OverallGeneral feel of the restaurant was quite nice and appropriately priced I think. It is a good place for a large group and the food is tasty. I wouldn't say that it was great thai but definitely good value thai, something which is missing in HK but so prevalent in other cities around the world. Overall a pleasant experience and one to keep in the back pocket for those sudden cravings of thai in Soho.

I never write reviews but after my experience at Lil Siam, I thought I would document this. We arrived at the restaurant with only 1 table of 6 persons present, we were the second table to arrive (3 persons).We orderedthe set lunch at HK $98 + 10% for a soup and main course which is quite standard around Central. My colleague and I ordered a Fried Rice and another colleague ordered a Pad Thai. At this point, my impression of the waiter was not good. When you asked her a question and she could not understand her reply would be "What?" in a very rude manner. They served the soup and we weren't too excited about it looked like a big bowl of MSG with some veg, tofu and minced pork. Taste was okay. Whilst having the soup, other tables started to arrive and soon the restaurant was full. We sat patiently waiting for our main courses to arrive. 30 minutes later, everyone else in the restaurant was eating apart from us. We asked the waiter to chase our food since we were in a hurry which he replied okay. 15 minutes later still no sign of food and we saw another table being served fried rice. As this point, we were ready to get up and leave, when we saw the waitress bring out 2 Pad Thai's but did not approach our table first. She said one Pad Thai to one table and then approached our table. After serving the Pad Thai to my colleague, we asked about the other 2 fried rice main dishes and why was our food taking so long. Her reply was "We are waiting for other tables so that we can cook them altogether." What kind of response is this! SO if another table was to order fried rice, does this mean we have to wait again? The server was not apologetic at all. After complaining, we still had to wait another 15 minutes. When the food came, I had lost my appetite due to the waiting and the rude staff. I would never come back here again.

Went there for a presumably Thai meal. We didn't have a reservation, so we weren't necessarily expecting a seat, but the hostess didn't have to be as rude as she was, very unprofessional in the way she acted, and snapped "we can seat you if you get out by 9pm", but we wanted Thai, so we agreed (as it was only 7:15 or so, plenty of time).We ordered 4 items and I will detail them below;Prawn Cakes; these were 23x as thick as any prawn cake I've ever had before, and unseasoned and bland. The chili dipping sauce tasted more like plum sauce than a Thai chili sauce.Green Papaya Salad; this was the only good thing of the meal. Not as spicy as a traditional thai one, but a bit of kick, decent seasoning, a good balance of sweet, salt, sour, spice. Mixed Vegetables; This one was bland bland bland. The vegetables were cooked well, but super oily, and reminiscent of a Chinese take away vegetable stir fry. A dash of salt would have gone a long way to make this palatable.Dunken Noodle w/Prawn; This again was incredibly bland, and oily oily oily. We ordered this extra extra spicy, but there was no spiciness at all. Completely disappointing.Add to this the fact that it took about 20 minutes for each dish to come out, and they came out in that order. Prawn Cakes after 15 minutes of waiting, Pappaya salad 10 minutes later, Vegetables 20 minutes later, Drunken noodles 20 minutes later. The server was decent, but a little dazed. Drinks sat empty for periods of time without any checking in.All in all I wouldn't eat here again, maybe as delivery as it seemed like the takeaway orders were coming to the pass very rapidly, while eatin diners are treated poorly and left to wait. If there was any inkling of authentic flavor (or let's be honest, any flavor at all) it might be worth it, but as it is, I'd say skip it and find another option to sate your Thai cravings.
